Leadership coaching is our specialty and our mission is to provide outstanding training and support to leaders who want to take their leadership abilities to the next level. We understand how challenging it can be to provide effective leadership, especially within roles where competing demands and high expectations are the norm and where often you feel staff could take more responsibility and accountability for their actions.

SelfSTART offers individual leaders and organisations unique, evidenced-based and contemporary leadership coaching training, that effectively impart the essential principles and skills of the coach approach leadership methods. We then support and coach leaders to successfully integrate their new skills into their workplaces as routine practice.

Introducing Rae Rafferty

Rae has over 39 years of experience in the field of healthcare and people management. The last decade she has focused on organisational culture and leadership development.

Rae is a Registered Nurse with two Masters Degrees focused on leadership development and coaching skills. The first was a Master of Business Administration (MBA) majoring in workforce development. The most recent was a Master of Science by Research, focusing on how to maximise the outcomes of leadership coaching training.

Rae has been conducting Self Start Leadership Coaching Programs, for the past 15 years, with outstanding results in the following organisations:

Local Health Districts within NSW Health:

  • Northern NSW
  • Mid-North Coast
  • Western NSW; South Western Sydney and
  • South Eastern Sydney

NSW Ministry of Health:

  • Nursing and Midwifery Office and the Workforce Branch

Other organisations:

  • St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney
  • Fair Work Commission Australia
  • Various NGOs

Rae has high-level abilities as a leader, communicator, facilitator, and coach. She has a strong commitment to empowering leaders to engage, connect and inspire their staff. She strongly believes that by using a coaching skillset a leader can engage more easily in meaningful interactions and thereby inspire greater initiative, drive and accountability in employees.

Equipped with coaching skills leaders report they personally experience: enhanced confidence and motivation, improved resilience, deepened work satisfaction, enhanced ability to build and develop their teams, improved competence to have corrective feedback conversations whilst maintaning strong positive relationships and importantly they report gaining time back in their day!
